A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Cheryl to tag along to her mother’s 90th birthday and be their Detroit Event Photographer at Granite City Food & Brewery. She had looked around at a few other local Detroit photographers and wanted someone with the skill to also photograph indoors, as the venue was rather dark. However, when I arrived at Granite City in Troy, Michigan, I was pleasantly surprised because one entire side of the room was covered in windows, and the natural light in there was beautiful. I only had to pop my speedlight flash on my camera for the large group photo, to combat some extra shadows since there were so many people.
Enough of the technical talk, because I’m so excited to share Cheryl’s photos and family with you. Her sons and their families live out of town, yet Grandma’s birthday was a celebration that brought everyone back to Detroit. I got to meet and connect with so many fun people, and it was a fabulous way to spend the afternoon on a Sunday. Being from Port Huron, I don’t often get a chance to hang around Troy very often, and I honestly forgot what a cool city and surrounding area it is. Granite City’s food looked seriously amazing, and everyone at the celebration enjoyed the breakfast buffet, and I enjoyed capturing lots of fun candid type photos of them also enjoy each other’s company.
Once brunch was finished, we broke off and did some individual family photos, as well as a larger group shot. I hope you enjoy this small preview into this special birthday celebration.
If you’re located around the Metro Detroit area and are looking for an event or family reunion type photographer, I would love the opportunity to chat with you, hear about your day, and come up with something that works! Megan: info@memoirs.photography
