This year has been the year of being a St. Clair County Extended Family Photographer, that’s for sure. And I can’t love it any more, really! Mike contacted me earlier this summer about doing an extended family photography session to include his family of four, as well as his sister’s family as a gift for their parents. I think that extended family sessions are so much fun, because I really get to do so many different types of sessions within each one, from pulling aside the mom and dad to do some cutesy photos of them alone, to getting some great “cousin” photos that are sure to hang proudly in Grandma and Grandpa’s living room for years to come.
We were able to get together last weekend at a really pretty park that was a good spot for both of us to meet, that had some great deep-woods hiking trails that was perfect for our morning session. While I’m fairly convinced that we sustained approximately 832 mosquito bites between all of us, and I’m 99% positive that I was literally laying in a patch of poison ivy for part of it, the photos are totally worth it. (And, never fear! I also learned that I’m immune to poison ivy.)
Coming from a tight-knit family myself, I know how important it is to get everyone together, and love the idea of documenting it with photos that you will all cherish for years to come. St. Clair county and eastern Michigan really doesn’t lack for any amazing locations or activities to facilitate this meeting, too. I’ve done extended family sessions that have rented lake houses (more on that later this week!) all the way to just a casual meet up at a park for portraits. It’s all special, and so important.
I hope you enjoy your preview into your fun extended family photography session, Mike. I had a wonderful time getting to know you and your amazing family!
