I met Lauren a couple weeks ago and she was referred to me by my cousin, who works with Lauren in Port Huron. I was immediately excited at the possibility of them booking me to photograph their November wedding, because it’s on the Michigan State University campus and it sounds so unbelievably awesome and I love traveling outside of SE Michigan, and exploring new places. Lauren and I had our consultation at the Raven last week, and, not only did she book for her wedding, she also wanted some Richmond, Michigan engagement photos taken soon, so she can mail out her save the dates. Of course, I was thrilled to oblige.
I prefer doing an engagement session with the future bride and groom, because it gives me some insight as to how they interact with each other, funny quirks, etc. It also gives me the chance to hang out with the couple in a low-key setting, before the craziness of the wedding day. It made sense for me to be their Richmond Michigan Engagement Photographer because they both live in Macomb County, so it was an easy half-way jaunt for both of us to do for a quick session. I love the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond so much. The intricate stone work, beautiful windows, and “old” feel of it is perfect for the couple who just “isn’t into rustic things” like Lauren and Brennan. The session went great. We were all cracking jokes, because I’m obsessed with those small looks and smiles that couples give each other when they think no one is watching. At one point, I told them to “talk and laugh naturally.” Lauren turned and said something to Brennan quietly and he started laughing. When I got closer, I said, “oh, is she telling jokes?” She replied, “No, I told him that we’re having chicken for dinner.” Now, every time I see a photo of them laughing, I totally picture that in my head.
Lauren and Brennan met while they were in college at Michigan State University. Lauren told me that she met Brennan at the beginning of her freshman year, so they’ve been together through so many of life’s changes together, and this wedding is a long time in the making. Her November wedding will be absolutely stunning on the MSU campus, and I cannot wait to photograph it then. I hope you love some of my favorite images from Brennan & Lauren’s Richmond, Michigan, engagement photography session.
PS: In case you missed my announcement on Facebook, I am teaming up with two other local photographers and merging our wedding business into one company that specializes exclusively in weddings. I will be photographing Lauren & Brennan’s wedding alongside one of my business partners, Kathryn, in November. Make sure you check out our new website: Mulberry & Sage. We are also going to be doing an amazing giveaway on the Mulberry & Sage facebook page starting tomorrow, so make sure to check that out, too!
