Every day life is beautiful. Those moments spent in your backyard may possibly become your child’s absolute favorite memory, and that was my goal with my daughter’s own backyard Michigan Farm Photo Session. Vivien is nearly five years old, and she absolutely adores being my “model” for photos. And, I have to proudly say that she’s pretty good at it, in my (humble) mom-opinion. When we moved back to the Blue Water Area in Michigan, we knew we wanted to buy a home on some acreage so that we could get some chickens and goats. In fact, I actually ordered the chickens from the hatchery when we were still living in Colorado. I knew it was going to be an amazing experience for my children, and something I couldn’t wait to watch hatch (pardon the pun) before my eyes.
Vivien has always been an animal lover. She readily grabs any and all wildlife (except bugs) and proclaims them to be her best friend, and tries to smother them with kisses. If I had to ever guess what her chosen profession will be once she gets older, I am going to venture into thinking it will have something to do with animals. However, if you ask her, she still stands strong at one day becoming a real life princess by day, and baker and astronaut by night. She has lofty goals, people.
Our new house in Clyde Township is the perfect opportunity to chase the “urban farming” dream we’ve all had for quite a while. One night, as we were all outside cleaning the chicken coop, I was observing Vivien interact with the chickens. While *most* kids may be timid, she holds them like a professional, and is gentle and loving. She guards them from going into our dense pond area, and scolds her 2 year old brother if he scares them or chases them (which, let’s be honest, is a lot.)
As I was watching her be responsible, and grow up in front of me, I couldn’t help but snap some photos of her with her favorite chicken that she named (appropriately) “Bockie.”
Enjoy!
