Back in August, I was able to second shoot a gorgeous Marlette Michigan Wedding at the Plantation Place Wedding Barn for my friend, and fellow Port Huron professional photographer, Courtney May Photography. As I was driving out to Marlette, I was literally watching the storm clouds roll across the fields and praying that the rain held off until after the ceremony. Plantation Place is a hidden gem out in Marlette, and is a massive barn alongside the corn fields and adorable farmhouse-turned-wedding-venue. The corn fields were amazing to photograph with, and the sweltering heat of the summer allowed the corn to grow and be naturally beautiful. Not only did the rain hold off until after the ceremony, it produced awesome storm cloud skies to photograph, and didn’t start raining until later that night once the party was well underway.
Inside the barn was seriously stunning (and huge!) The twinkle lights on all the walls gave off a gorgeous glow and ambiance, and there was tons of space to sit, eat, dance and drink. Cody and Libby were so sweet, and I had an awesome time getting to know them and seeing their dynamic as a couple. I could immediately tell that they were fun-loving (their “signature drink” of the day was called the Throat Punch. Legit.) Their bridal party was also crazy fun. The thing with being a second photographer is that I typically get to spend the “getting ready” hours with the groomsmen, so I really get the opportunity to see the groom in his comfort zone, with his guys, before the nerves of the wedding really get to him.
Their food was so good; BBQ was a natural selection for this country chic wedding, and the company that catered it (Big River BBQ) did a phenomenal job. Courtney and I had so much fun poking around the property and using all the rustic-charm to really enhance the photos. If you’re in Eastern Michigan and looking for an awesome and unique wedding venue, I highly suggest checking out the Plantation Place Wedding Barn. It’s a bit of a drive from the Port Huron area, but it’s seriously worth.
Upon permission from Courtney, I hope you enjoy some of my favorite images from Libby and Cody’s country wedding on the farm.
