I’ve had the privilege of knowing Danielle since we were both in JR High and on the cheerleading squad together, so when she reached out to book a family photo session in her backyard on the Black River in Port Huron, I was thrilled. Danielle has always been a kind heart, and she was actually the first of my old high school friends to suggest getting together when I moved back to Michigan last spring. Her daughter, Lucy, is Vivien’s age (5), and is the sweetest little girl. She and Vivien became swift friends (I wish I made “best friends!” as easily as my daughter does) and so we get the girls together every once in a while to play, and for us to catch up. During one of those playdates, she mentioned wanting to take some updated family photos.
During the summer, Lucy was diagnosed with Grade 1 Astrocytoma tumors. She has two tumors on the brain, and one on her spine. In August, she had a successful surgery removing the largest of the tumors that was causing fluid buildup on her brain. This September, Lucy started chemotherapy, and she will continue her weekly chemo treatments weekly, for the next 84 weeks. Shawn and Danielle wanted to get some photos done, prior to her beginning her chemotherapy, and their backyard on the Black River is seriously stunning, so it was a great evening hanging out with their family. I wanted to let the photos do the “talking” and showcase this amazing family for their courage, strength, and strong family bond. Danielle, thank you so much for trusting me to do your family photos, and I hope you loved them.
I’d also like to mention a few additional notes, if you’re local in the Port Huron Area.
- On November 19th, there will be a bowling fundraiser at Blue Water Bowl, to help raise money to offset the substantial medical cost that the family has (and will continue to) endured. To learn more about that, check out this Facebook Invitation.
- To become one of the #TeamLucy prayer warriors and keep updated with her progress, Danielle has created a Team Lucy facebook page. Check that out by clicking here.
- Join the #TeamLucy army and display your support loud and proud. T-Shirts and sweatshirts can be purchased, and a portion of the sale will go directly to the family. Check that out by clicking here.
The two brothers had me literally cracking up, pretty much the entire session, and I loved watching the family dynamic and love happen, right before my eyes. Danielle and Shawn still flirt and I think I saw some actual heart eyes when they looked at each other. Such a family inspiration for all of us! Enjoy this adorable family’s photo session.
